If you suffer from gum disease, know that there are several effective solutions we use here at Periodontics and Implant Dentistry. Dr. Chris Hutton is a periodontist in Racine, WI, who specializes in the LANAP laser procedure, which is the only laser gum disease treatment approved by the FDA. With this technology and Dr. Hutton's experience, there's no need for your gum disease to worsen or for you to live with less than stellar oral health.

 What You Can Expect

The LANAP laser gum disease treatment often takes two separate two-hour long visits to complete. The way it works is one side of your mouth is treated during your first visit and the other is treated during your second visit. Know that there's a chance you might need splinting if any of your teeth are discovered to be loose. One of the best things about this particular treatment is you'll be able to get back to work and resume your normal day-to-day activities soon after receiving your treatment.

 After Your Procedure

In regards to what you can expect after your gum disease treatment, there might be some soreness for the first few days after your procedure. You'll be pleased to know that any soreness you have can be successfully treated with over-the-counter ibuprofen.

There are also reports of patients experiencing discolored gums after the LANAP procedure. If you do have to wear splints after treatment, be sure you follow Dr. Hutton's instructions so you can heal faster and experience greater results. You'll likely have to switch to a soft diet, and you'll also want to refrain from flossing and brushing for the first seven to 10 days after the procedure.
